This is a beautiful piece. The houses, although seen from above are detailed, each has a chimney and there is even a texture on every roof. It's a pleasure to look both - from the distance and in full view. in the distant view we can admire how nice the position of every street is. We get the feeling that the map is 3-dimensional. Every house seem convex, the same as city wall , trees and Dju-Hoki Temple, that thanks to your amazing shading feels like the highest building in the city. There are even some animals on fields and ships on the river. When we take a close look we admire all the details. We can see not only textures on roofs, streets and city wall, but we also see that every higher building throws long shadows on other buildings, there are some ponds in the park, every tree is lightened were it should be and trees behind buildings are darker. I like that you added names of the most important buildings. It truly must have be very difficult and time consuming and involved lots of your work. I know that you copied and rotated houses and it already took lots of effort, but I wish you hadn't make buildings differ a little bit. For example houses by the river in G5 square. They are next to each other an look exactly the same, maybe if the chimneys were in different places or had a little bit different colour it would be better. Also little part of city wall in D1 doesn't have any texture on. Personally I would like it better if it looked less digital more fantasy, especially the river feels very digital and artificial to me, but this is a very personal opinion, so don't worry about it at all.
Generally I like the piece very much, I think it will look wonderful as a poster on the wall! I appreciate the effort you made to create this wonderful work of art and the impressive shading that made it look 3-dimensional. You did a great job.
I absolutely love how much detail went into this map and wish I could construct one that looked this good! Now if only I could read German without Google Translate...
Hey there. Every Building is a single layer, often only a square or rectangle with lots of Photoshop-Filter on it. So you can rotate a building and the "sun" shines still on from one direction. There are lota of unique buildings like the temple or the wizard-towers. for the most normal buildings i use 10 different building-types and throw them over the plan... then the monkwork beginns, cause it was a challenge that NO house is surounded by other houses without an entrance. You see... no brushes (only the woods and the ruins). I dont have worked 8 hours a day on that map (you probatly going mad ). But it has cost a month till it was finnished.
Are all the buildings png files that you were rotating to get this effect? Or are they brushes? Have you created them yourself if they are? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm stunned with the result and I would like to know more, since I'm thinking of trying something similar myself.
Very nice piece of work! I could use it easily in a rpg campaign. I can't imagine how much time you have put into this. I'm sure that its a monks job in photoshop. I'm going to look at it in detail...
Weiter so!
I love maps, i would like to understand the locations names, i love how you divided the city in wards, and make greener the rich areas (i suposse these are the richest areas in the city)
